“Wind Steals the Spotlight: Rooftop turbines draw attention to this new mixed-use high-rise in Portland, but it’s the less visible systems and design choices that make it a beacon of green. Twelve West is best known in the neighborhood for its four rooftop wind turbines but, as developer Dennis Wilde of Gerding Edlen Development points out, those “are just a bit of frosting.” The more meaningful green strategy of this building is not so easy to see. That’s partly because it’s hidden inside the walls and systems, with predicted savings of nearly 50 percent in both energy and water use. Also less obvious is how the project revitalizes its surroundings”.- Via Project: Twelve West Catches the Breeze by Nadav Malin. Read More.

Let’s cross our fingers Portland and hope that sunshine and blue skies find a home in Oregon. Sure- we can all throw on our boots and tough out the rain but sooner than later the sun is bound to arrive and there will be plenty to see and do. The Portland Rose Festival is still in the works and this weekend is Keybank’s Grand Floral Parade. The floral parade is what The Portland Rose Festival is all about- “Rose Spirit”. Come along and enjoy the spirit of the Great Northwest!

Keybank’s Grand Floral Parade begins at the Rose Garden Memorial Coliseum and continues it’s route on into downtown Portland. Seating is available both indoors and outdoors at differing costs. Unable to make into the city? The parade begins at 10am and will be televised live from KGW NewsChannel 8.
Have you ever attended one of Portland’s General Electric/SOLV Starlight Parades? If not, this weekend is your chance.

“The Portland General Electric/SOLV Starlight Parade offers funky, eclectic fun for the whole family! From traditional marching bands and flood-lit floats, to glow-in-the-dark umbrellas and hand-built entries, you’ll see the best of Portland’s diverse community groups and entries from the surrounding Northwest region. One of our most popular events, the parade draws more than 250,000 spectators to downtown Portland, and is also broadcast live from 9:00 – 11:00 p.m. on KGW News Channel 8. This year the Starlight Parade is proud to welcome the Northwest’s own Seth Aaron Henderson, recent winner of Project Runway, as our Grand Marshal”. -Presented by Portland General Electric/SOLV and Portland Rose Festival.
