How’s about dining out on swings? Sounds interesting, right? East Burn- a good place to kick back with friends and sway while you eat. There is both indoor and outdoor seating options; many of these include swings that hang table-side. The outdoor patio also includes tables with fire-pits as your centerpiece (please note: the outdoor patio allows smoking).

Last week I managed to fit in a feast while dining at East Burn and it was worth it.  Let me just say-Elk Meatloaf Sandwich- served on pugliese with slow roasted tomatoes and baby arugula dressed with champagne vinaigrette (Oh yum). I will be back for the meatloaf sandwich before you know it.

The good food didn’t stop there, I also indulged in a side of clam chowder that was equally brilliant. You see- I am a huge fan of clam chowder and all types of Seafood. This was due to my adolescence when I grew up digging clams clams in Sitka, Alaska during the summer. My grandfather and I would go out in the early morning when the low-tides hit and scoop up large clams right beneath the surface. When our buckets were filled to the brim, we would haul the clams indoors and helped grandma get to cooking. By afternoon and high-tide, we had a huge batch of fresh clam chowder that would melt in your mouth. Some fun facts to throw out there while offering a good piece of where to eat when you want to sway!

Why not gather together as a business and take advantage of the sustainable alternatives surrounding us? Why not have your daily office needs delivered by bike? Start a compost at your workplace? Get rid of paper-cups and purchase mugs to share? Provide multiple recycling receptacles so folks don’t have a convenient excuse to rid things in the trash? Think local, organic, and sustainable.

Celebrate the great weather and get to know some of Portland’s great neighborhoods in a way we almost never get to experience, WITHOUT ANY CARS!

Yeah, you heard right. Portland Sunday Parkways is back this year and the first event is this Sunday (May 16th) in NE Portland.

For those that haven’t heard yet, Sunday Parkways is an annual event that allows our streets to become parks, if only for a day. It works like this; large routes of streets get blocked off to cars and opened up to pedestrians, bikers, runners, etc.

I volunteered as an “Intersection Superhero” last year and I got so jealous of all the people cruising by enjoying the safe, quiet carfree streets that I am selfishly not volunteering this year. Getting cars off the streets is such a unique opportunity in our society that I wouldn’t want to miss this.

I know Labor Day is months away, but this is definitely an event anyone who lives in the great Northwest should attend at one point in life.  Ask around…I’ll put money it  1 or 2 out of 10 people from the area either have been to this spectacular show, or know of someone who has.
