big-wheelsThis Sunday is New Begium Brewing’s Urban Assault Ride™.  I will certainly be participating in this great event that combines many of my favorite activities. I recommend you sign up with me or at least come to the after party. It should be fun.

“What is the Urban Assault Ride?” you ask. Well here is an explanation from their website:

The Urban Assault Ride™ is a truly unique cycling event…and quickly becoming one of the biggest in country! Here’s how it works: You and your teammate will set out on a city-wide quest for ‘checkpoints’ on your favorite two-wheeled steeds.  At each checkpoint, you’ll drop your bikes and complete a funky/adventurous obstacle course, then remount your bikes and hit the streets for more. The goal is to complete all the checkpoints in the shortest amount of time. You choose your own route and checkpoint order. This means that the most clever are often the victors. Of course, it may also help if you can pull a mean big-wheel powerslide and fly across an inflatable slip-n-slide ;)

After your pedal-powered adventure, your team will cross the finish line and enter a massive celebration of bikes and beer. The after party is just as much fun as the ride itself, thanks to the craziest raffle prize contest you’ll ever experience.

Pick a partner and we’ll see you there!

Redcross

On Monday, April  12th,  our neighbors ZGF will host a blood drive.

The American Red Cross will have a bus parked outside of the lobby.

March is Red Cross Month. If you’ve never donated blood before, now’s the time to do it! I do this at least twice a year, and can promise you that you’ll have an instant feeling of gratification after doing so!

Please contact Brenda Griffiths at ZGF to schedule an appointment time for yourself: 503.863.2304

Why not contribute a small donation while out shopping? All Whole Foods Markets, a leader in natural and organic foods, are accepting donations for the Haitian Earthquake Relief Drive to help those victims of the recent and devastating earthquake. Through January 31st, shoppers can conveniently make a  donation of $1, $2, $5, $10, or any designated amount to help several relief organizations while checking out at the register. Find out more! I donated today while grabbing some of their most delicious salad bar! Good food along with the good feeling of giving.

Take a look at the story of a local Oregonian couple effected by the recent earthquake.

Recognized throughout the Pacific Northwest as the “Largest Holiday Light Show West of the Mississippi”, the 17th annual Jubitz Winter Wonderland at Portland International Raceway will grab your attention with glimmers and glows around every corner.Jubitz

Since 1993, a journey through Winter Wonderland has become a Holiday tradition for many families, friends, and social organizations to celebrate the spirit of the holiday season. Spectators can enjoy the most spectacular drive-through light show in the region, viewing over 250 colorful displays and 40 fully animated scenes from the comfort of their own vehicle . Visitors this year will be amazed to travel through the Tunnel of Lights, a 200 plus foot tunnel of lights that transports visitors to distant and magical lands.

Over one million spectators have taken the Winter Wonderland journey since its origin, helping to contribute over $460,000 and over 33 tons of food to local charities.

A new twist for this year includes a bicycles only night on December 7th. It costs $5 a person with children younger than 13 free. If you plan to mount your bike to your car and drive to the raceway, parking is free. If you plan to ride there, the South Gate off Denver Avenue will be open for easy access.
